Great points !!

Imagine daycares had a FAQ on their website that answered these questions: 1) would give parents comfort 2) could save their staff time in answering the same questions with every individual parent across all inquiries and tours 3) could help attract great educators and strong interest / demand from parents

Love this. And the interesting part is which centres would actually do it. A centre with long-tenured educators and a deliberate capacity ceiling has everything to gain from publishing the answers. A centre running at 100% with six-month average tenure has a very good reason not to. The willingness to answer becomes the signal of quality!

I wish I had read this before we did all our daycare tours! Great piece. I did come across one place that calculated their ratios across the entire floor rather than rooms and that was definitely a red flag to me as well.

You and me both Nicola! But it's never too late to ask these Qs. The quality of answers you get back says everything about the centre, which is otherwise impossible to see on a tour or a 15 min drop off. The "under the roof" rule is technically legal, but a good centre won't rely on it.
